In 2013, Osaka University's Joining and Welding Research Institute (JWRI) in Japan collaborated with the Mechanical Engineering Department of Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) to facilitate the reception and exchange of students and researchers from HUST. The aim was to enhance welding skills and address the deficiency in welding technology management in Vietnam.
In 2016, this initiative was further intensified, and by 2018, the Vietnam Welding Research Club was established. It regularly organized workshops and practical visits to welding enterprises in Vietnam. The goal was to enhance collaboration between Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), Osaka University's Joining and Welding Research Institute (JWRI), and Vietnamese and Japanese businesses.
In 2023, the Joining and Welding Technology Research Center (JWRI HUST-OU) was established to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan. The center focuses on scientific research, technology transfer, and university-level education, including postgraduate studies. The outcomes include technology transfer activities, increased publication of scientific works in reputable international journals, and the enhancement of postgraduate education quality.
As part of the activities organized by the Vietnam Welding Research Club, on November 24, 2023, nearly 20 Japanese enterprises, along with representatives from Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Osaka University, visited the QH Plus Steel Structure Corporation (QHPS) located in the My Xuan B1 Industrial Zone, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. After receiving an introduction to the company from the QHPS Leadership Board, the delegation was guided by the production directors of the factory to tour the manufacturing workshops responsible for producing steel structures. The Japanese businesses also commended the efforts of QHPS in achieving and maintaining the H-grade standards.
According to the Osaka University's website, in recognition of its impactful collaboration with Hanoi University of Science and Technology, JWRI received commendation from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan in 2023. This commendation is annually awarded to individuals or groups that make significant contributions to overseas activities. Congratulations to JWRI and Osaka University for this achievement.
